Slave Quarters

Back in southern plantation times, there were houses built especially for the slaves who worked the land. The houses were simple and small. This particulay complex is located at Magnolia Plantation in central Louisiana. It has recently been included in the new Creole National Park area. This is one of the best preserved slave quarters left intact in the United States. The people who inhabited these homes not only worked the land, they built furniture, repaired equipment, tended children, cooked, and did numberous other jobs around the plantation.
