Country Post Office Mail Slots


Back in the old days, the post office was a bit more simple than it is today. If you wanted to receive mail at a particular post office, you just let the post master (usually the store owner) know that bit of infomation and you were on. If you got any mail, it was put in a slot that had the first letter of your last name on it (see photo). When you came to get your mail, you had to ask for it from the post master. There were not locked boxes back then. The post master was a man who knew a lot of informational stuff like who was getting mail from who...........
