Television Antennas

Television came to America at the close of World War II. It was a big hit with everyone. At first T.V. images were "snowy" and pictures popped on and off the screen at will. In order to improve reception, the T.V. antenna was developed. Some antennas were single decked. Some were double, triple decked or more. Supposedly, the more decks the better the reception.

If you lived near a large town that had a T.V. station, your reception was a lot better than folks who lived way out in the country. If you lived in the town where the T. V. station was located, you could get good reception with "rabbit ears". That was a "V" shaped antenna that could be placed on top of your T.V. set. Outside antennas were usually attached to the house or on a pole that was attached to the house. If poor weather caused poor reception, you could go outside and turn the antenna one way or another in an attempt to get better reception. Some people installed an electric antenna turner to prevent themselves from having to go outside. The antenna is a thing of the past.
