Spoonbill Catfish
Many years ago, the spoonbill catfish was a common fish in many parts of the country. They were usually caught in nets or by snagging. They look like some pre-historic monster from a science fiction book. Kind of like a
"throw-back" to the stone age. They grow to be very big (see photo) and are a great trill to catch. Today, the population is extremely low and are on the Endangered Species list in some places. There are still at least two locations where there are sufficient numbers to mention: The Catahoula Lake area in central Louisiana, and the Osage River, Lake of the Ozarks area especially just below the dam.
Glad to know that they haven't vanished completely.
