Old Style Metal Faucets

Not many people had indoor plumbing before World War II. Your water came from cisterns, deep wells, springs, etc. When people did eventually get indoor plumbing it was a blessing from God. Then you could have hot and/or cold water at your disposal 24/7 right there in the comfort of your home. It was a big step forward in man-kinds development of home creature comforts.

In order to control the amount and flow of water into a tub or lavatory, the faucet was invented. Just turn a knob and you had the type and amount of water that you wanted. Early metals for faucet making were not resistant to certain minerals in some water and corroded easily. Others were made of inferior alloy metals that did not last long (see photo). Never-the-less, eventually manufactures corrected this problem and now we have faucets that are stain resistant, long-lasting, and in some cases, works of art.
