Grocery Store Scales

All civilizations have needed a method of weighing goods for buying and selling. Many devices have been invented, created, and tried. As civilizations advanced in technology, they have come up with ingenious ways to accomplish this problem. In the 1900's the best machine to weigh certain grocery items such meat was the mechanical scale (see photo).

This machine was very accurate, took up little counter space, was not an environmental intrusion, and was accepted by buyers and sellers as a fair and equitable method of doing transactions.
