Long before communities had public swimming pools, people used ponds and streams as their swimming holes. On a hot summer day, it was nothing to find 20 or more people of all ages gathered at the swimming hole to cool off. There were always a few boys who wanted a rope swing, so before long...........there it was. Some people could do flips off the rope. For others, it took all their courage just to try it out. All in all, it was a place to cool off, a place to see and be seen, and a place to catch up on the lastest gossip. There are still a few old swimming holes today, but for the most part, they are a thing of the past.
