
The Great Depression was bad for everyone. People lived as best they could. Clothes were few, food was scarce, and housing was meager (see photo). The policy for survival was: if it breaks, fit it...........if if wears out mend it..........if it can be made at home, do it.......................if you can do without it, do it.
People got by with a home garden, harvesting fish and wildlife, forageing for food like blackberries, possum grapes, wild bee honey, muscidines, mayhaws, etc. Clothes were hand-me-downs until they were treadbare, then they were used to make quilts.
It was rough.
